Hello Shawn I am kind of a mix between an engineer and a scientist. As far as my schooling, I spent 3.5 years getting my bachelors degree. And then I worked full time and went to grad school part time for about 3 years and got my masters degree.

Hi Shawn, I am almost done with graduate school and this is my 6th year. Usually graduate school (to get a PhD degree) takes about 5 or 6 years. However, this whole time is not spent taking classes. Most of my time in graduate school I spend doing Astronomy research.

Most people spend about 4 years in college getting their bachelor's degree. From there, the amount of time it takes depends on what you want to do. If you want to become a faculty scientist at a research university, you need a PhD, which will take an additional 5 or 6 years after college. However, if you get a job as scientist at a lab or company, then you may need only a Master's degree which often takes 2-3 years, so can get you into a job even sooner.
