    How was space formed and how can it just be empty?

    Hi; well, I'm not a cosmologist but I will say to begin with that space isn't completely empty - it just seems like it compared to the amount of stuff around us here on Earth. In space there is gas and dust (in higher or lower concentrations depending on where you are), and there is light, and there is energy and matter that we can see the effects of but we cannot directly detect (yet).
